Recently Google has implemented its famous map service with a new feature. This allows you to share, with friends or relatives chosen by us, our current location. It can be very useful to notify your parents while you are traveling or to explain to your colleague that at that time you are not in the office and then you can not perform the required task. But also to organize outings with friends. We will also be able to choose for how long people can see where we are. Obviously, the new Maps feature works on both Android and iOS devices.
How to share your location with Google Maps
At this point the question is: how to share our location? Like all Google services, this one is also very intuitive and easy to put into practice. First, of course, we start Google Maps. At this point we must click on the menu, which we remember on the service is marked by the icon with three horizontal lines. In the pop-up menu we will see the words Share Location. Let’s click on this item. Alternatively we can also click the directions icon (blue and in the upper left corner), it will open a search bar where we’ll find the menu and the item Share Location. At this point, before sharing the location we have to choose for how long it will be visible. The minimum limit is 15 minutes, the maximum is 3 days. After all this, all we have to do is choose the contact, or contacts, and send our location. If we want to add a person that we don’t have in our contacts, just press the icon with the three dots to manually insert a contact with whom we can share the place where we are at the moment. If we were driving and we want to reassure friends or relatives in addition to the position we can also set a standard message such as “I’m home” to send once we reach our final destination. If set, this process will happen automatically. To set it up, just press the Share Trip Progress button while in Navigation mode.
