How to recognize call centers from the prefix

With a special resolution, AGCOM has established two prefixes dedicated to agencies and call centers. Just recognize them to … avoid them

The Guarantor Authority for Communications provides users with a new tool to recognize call centers and telemarketing services. “Merit” of Resolution No. 156/18/CIR of AGCOM, which will allow to distinguish between calls for promotional purposes and calls aimed at statistical activities.

After a process that lasted more than a year, AGCOM has officially indicated the two prefixes that will identify call centers and telemarketing centers that will try to contact us on the home phone or smartphone. In this way, the various agencies will no longer be able to “hide” behind anonymous or seemingly homemade numbers. Knowing in advance which are the two prefixes linked to the call centers, the user will be able to decide whether to answer or hang up and avoid unwelcome proposals.

How to recognize call centers by their prefix

Initially, AGCOM should have identified only one telephone prefix, valid both for marketing agencies and for those dealing with statistical activities. Following protests from the unions, the Guarantor Authority has decided to create a double prefix, differentiated according to the activity carried out by the agency. Specifically, the AGCOM will now create and assign two prefixes: 0843 and 0844.

With the 0843 will be identified all those agencies whose main activity concerns statistical purposes. With 0844, on the other hand, will be identified the promotional and telemarketing agencies, which deal with market research and activities of advertising, sales and commercial communication. In short, if you see on your smartphone screen a number with these two prefixes, you already know what awaits you.
