Here’s a series of tips to avoid endangering the safety of our children on the Internet and social platforms
After years of anarchy, the Web confronts us with important issues: one of the most discussed in recent times concernsĀ the use thatĀ children make of the Internet. The Net is certainly a precious tool for their growth, but at the same time it is very dangerous.
When you are nine or ten years old, it is difficult to recognize the many traps on the Internet and it takes very little to access websites that are not suitable for adolescents. The same goes for social networks, tools that cannot be used by a child. But very often the possibility is given to teenagers to create a profile without too many problems. And without controlling the people they come into contact with. Parents should be the ones to monitor their child’s behavior, but in many cases they are the ones who publish their children’s photos.
This is one of the topics that should be explored to protect children from social networks, especially Facebook. Pictures of children, especially young ones, should be posted sparingly and using every precaution. Social platforms are frequented by people with no moral restraint who might use children’s images for other purposes.
Oscure face
If you want to protect your children on social platforms, the first person who needs to change is the parent. Posting a picture of your child every day, especially if they are young, is not the best behavior. If you really want to share pictures of your child with your friends, you should at least blur their eyes or face. If this solution is not to your liking, you can opt for a second option: choose the people with whom you want to share the image. Facebook offers the possibility of selecting the people with whom to share the photos: next to the Publish button there is another button that lets you choose who can see the published content. Here we can choose between Friends, Friends except or customize the list of people who will see the image. The last possibility is the best to protect your children.
Make the account private
On Twitter and Instagram, however, it is advisable to make the account private. In this way, people who want to follow us must first send a request so that we always know with whom we are sharing images of our children. To make your account private, just enter the profile settings and access the Security section.
On Facebook you cannot make your profile private, but you can “close” your wall so that you can show the pictures of your children only to your friends. Just go into Account Settings, then click on Privacy and set Friends under “Who can see your future posts?”. This way your children will definitely be more protected.
