The Cupertino-based company offers free out-of-warranty repair in the event of a large-scale malfunction. Here’s how to find out when it happens
One of the advantages often cited by Apple fans is the possibility of having a widespread service network articulated between Apple Store (with their Genius Bars), authorized service center and a chat service accessible directly from the website of the house of Cupertino. So, in the event that the device of the bitten apple should have a problem, simply locate the most convenient service and contact it.
Apple products are covered by two years of legal warranty: the first is borne by Apple itself, the second, however, is borne by the seller from whom you purchased the device. If the Mac or iPhone to be serviced was purchased from the Apple website or from an Apple Store, both years of warranty will be guaranteed by the assistants of the nearest Genius Bar. Obviously, after the two-year warranty, any malfunction or failure can be repaired for a fee.
iPhone and Mac repaired without warranty
In some cases, Apple products can be repaired for free even if they are no longer covered by the warranty. These are very particular cases, announced by Apple itself with notes addressed to the press, announcements on its website and communications via e-mail. The free out-of-warranty repair, in particular, is guaranteed when the purchased products present a failure or malfunction on a large scale caused by design or assembly errors.
How to get your iPhone or Mac repaired for free out of warranty
In case your iPhone, MacBook, iMac, iPad or Apple Watch has a problem and you think it might be due to a hardware or software design error, you need to open the “Exchange and Repair Extension Programs” page and check if your device is on the list.
Once found, click on the name of the current recall campaign, wait for the page to open and, in the upper right part of the screen click on the drop-down menu “Country/Geographical area” and choose Italy. If our country is in the list, it means that the recall campaign is valid also for Italian users; if it is not, it means that the device is affected by another issue.
In the page you will be provided with all the information you need: a description of the problem, the list of devices affected by the recall (and possibly a tool to verify it using the serial number) and how to get the device repaired or replaced.
