How to find your smartphone when it’s silent

Do you often lose your phone at home or never find it in your purse? Don’t worry, here are three techniques that will save you in every occasion

Everybody has gone through their pockets or purse and can’t find their smartphone. The nightmare of losing the phone accompanies us daily. The real problem is to find it again if you have turned on the silent mode.

We will see three different ways to find your smartphone when it is silent. The first tip requires an Internet connection. This is easy enough to predict. By now, almost all of us leave the data connection or Wi-Fi on our phones all the time. To find your device you just need to use a service present by default on Google. Obviously this only applies if the account on our phone is associated with a Google account. Thanks to this feature we will be able, with a few clicks, to immediately understand where the phone is, since we will be shown its last recorded position on the map.

Managing Android Devices

Let’s see then how to set up this feature on Google. First, we need to go to Security Settings of our Android smartphone and then click on Device Manager. Here, we enable the option for Android Device Management and grant permission to lock, wipe and change the password remotely. This will allow us to enter our credentials on another device and access the Find My Phone feature. Once we click on this section we’ll see a map that will mark the exact point where our device is located (we’ll need to have geolocation active on the smartphone we lost), or where it was last registered. In addition, remotely we can also lock it or make it ring with an emergency ringtone. This will be heard even if the phone is set to silent.

Ring my Droid

If the lost phone isn’t connected to the internet, you can use an application like Ring my Droid. Obviously, this must be done before losing the phone. So, we install the app and set up a standard recovery SMS. Such as “it’s me, ring”. Once the smartphone is lost, just send an SMS with the same phrase from any device to start the ringtone of our device. The advice with apps like this is to choose an uncommon phrase and not to say it to anyone. Otherwise, you might risk hearing your phone ring at inconvenient times.

Clap to Find

What happens if you lose your phone while it’s in airplane mode? That’s a tough one, but no problem, even if calls and messages don’t work we can always turn to specialized apps created to solve these particular cases. Apps like Clap to Find. Once installed, all we have to do is record the sound of our clapping. Once the phone is lost, all we have to do is clap three times in a row and magically the smartphone will start to ring. But the device will have to be very close to the person, so they can hear the clapping.  Again, the advice is not to tell anyone that the phone can be activated in this way.
