How to disable Mac’s webcam with Sierra

Disabling Mac’s webcam is essential for privacy, to do this we can use tape or install third-party apps

To protect the computer and our privacy from prying eyes it is essential to disable the PC’s camera when we are not using it. Despite the fact that hacker attacks in recent times are focusing more on Android and Windows, it is important to perform this operation also for Mac users.

Whether we use a webcam iSight or the simple front camera of the Mac, it is advisable to protect our privacy by covering or disabling the camera when it is not in use. The easiest method, although aesthetically quite ugly, is to cover the device’s webcam with tape or a patch. If we use the computer for work showing up to a meeting with a hinged Mac, however, is not the most stylish. That’s why we can use a third-party app to disable the webcam when we don’t need it. One of the best apps for this is iSight Disabler.

Installing iSight Disabler

The first thing to do is to download and install the latest version of iSight Disabler. Once you’ve downloaded the .zipper file, you’ll need to unzip it. That way we’ll see all the files inside, and among them we’ll have to select iSightConfigure.app. At this point a screen will inform us of the applications integrated with iSight or with the computer’s camera. To go on, all we have to do is click on Disable iSight. This will prevent access to the camera when we do not authorize it. How will we authorize it? Simple by setting a password or PIN to use when needed.
