How to change time on Windows 10

Does your computer time show wrong? No problem: on Windows 10 you can set easy and fast way: here’s how to do it

Your computer shows you a wrong time? The reasons may be different: maybe you’re moving to another country or you’re traveling and your device has to adapt to the new time zone. Of course, such an error can happen even if you stay in the same place. Exactly when?

For example, it happens when you install other operating systems on the disk, or you change components or stay for long periods without turning on the computer. In short, the reasons are many, but if you use the Windows 10 operating system there is an effective procedure to return to normal. You can choose between a manual setting and an automatic one, which will connect to the server and apply the time found online. Finally, you can also put your hand to the time zone, which may be different from the one in which you use your computer.

Change time on Windows 10: manual procedure

If the time of your computer turns out to be wrong, the first thing to do is to right-click on it. This information can be found in the bottom left corner, in the taskbar. At this point, a drop-down menu will open, where the second item will be “Change date and time”. In the window that launches automatically, you must deactivate the two items: “Set date/time automatically” and “Set time zone automatically”. After deactivating both of them, you can click on the Edit button under the heading Edit date and time. Now you can change both date and time by entering the digits manually.

Update Windows 10 Time Automatically

An alternative to not waste time in the cumbersome Windows 10 Settings is to set the operating system to automatically search for the exact time relying on the network. This way, it will be applied to the system as soon as the computer starts up. To automatically update the time on Windows 10, you need to perform a procedure similar to the previous one. First, right-click on the time located in the bottom right corner, select the Edit Date/Time item. A window will open where there are two entries: the first is “Set date/time automatically” and the second is “Set time zone automatically”. Flagging the first item will always have the time updated each time you start your computer, since the server available through the Internet will be used.

Working on these Settings you can change the time manually or let it connect to the server. Finally, if the time is out of whack, the cause could be a time zone error. In this case, you must always act within the Settings > change date/time window, where the reference time zone is located. The one for Italy is UTC+1 (Amsterdam, Berlin, Rome, Stockholm, Vienna). At this point, Windows 10 should successfully display the correct time.
