How to boot the iPhone 8 in recovery mode and DFU mode

Apple on its new smartphones, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, has changed the steps to access DFU mode and recovery mode, here’s how to activate them

With the new iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus Apple has changed the method to perform recovery mode and DFU mode. With the first we restore the phone to factory data while with the second we can choose the firmware we want to install on the phone.

Until iPhone 7 to perform a recovery through the recovery mode was enough to press simultaneously and for several seconds the power button plus the Home button. If we do this operation on iPhone 8, however, we will activate the emergency mode. To perform a recovery we will then have to press the low volume button and then the power button until we see the Apple logo appear on the screen of our iPhone. This is not a simple operation to perform. Also because this mode should not be able to be activated randomly. The advice to do this in the best possible way, also avoiding that the phone slips from our hands, is to place the iPhone 8 on a table and then run the recovery mode.

It should be remembered, however, that to complete access to recovery mode, after pressing the right buttons, we will have to connect a Lightning cable in our phone and then insert it into a PC or a Mac where it is present iTunes. In such a way as to restore the device to factory data but still install the latest version of iOS on our smartphone.

DFU Mode

Enable DFU (Device Firmware Upgrade) mode if we want is also a longer and slightly more complex operation. Again, let’s take our time, it’s not something to do while in a hurry. First, we place the phone on a desk or table and connect it, using a Lightning cable, to our PC or Mac where we have installed iTunes. At this point we touch the low volume button, then press for 10 seconds the power button and then for 5 seconds the low volume button without leaving the power button. After 5 seconds, remove your finger from the power button but continue to press the volume button for another 10 seconds. This is a difficult operation and may take more than one attempt. If we succeed, the phone’s screen will turn off and iTunes on your Mac or PC will recognize that the device is in DFU mode. To get out of DFU mode we will then have to do a reboot. To do so, we simultaneously press the volume down and power button until the Apple logo appears on the iPhone 8 display.
