The price of Samsung’s new top-of-the-line smartphones announced: Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Z Flip. Coming by the end of February
The top-of-the-line smartphones that Samsung will unveil on February 11 will cost about the same as last year’s. It’s not official news, but the source is pretty reliable: Max Weinbach, one of the main signatures of the XDA Developers portal. In a tweet Weinbach claims to have “heard” the prices of the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Z Flip, although in the end they might be slightly lower.
The future heirs of the Samsung Galaxy S10e, S10 and S10+, that is respectively the Samsung Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+ and Galaxy S20 Ultra will cost approximately between 900 and 1300 euros while the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip will touch 1,400 euros. To be precise, the Galaxy S20 will cost 900-1,000 euros, the Galaxy S20+ will cost 1,050-1,100 euros and the Galaxy S20 Ultra 1,300. These prices, Weinbach specifies in subsequent tweets, refer to the basic versions but with 5G connection, while the versions with 4G connection will cost about 100 euros less. Finally, again according to Weinbach, the new Galaxy S20 will go on sale in four colors: black, blue, pink and gray. But the colors available will vary according to different markets.
Samsung Galaxy S20: is the price right?
The tweet by Max Weinbach of XDA Developers has sparked a long chain of reactions and response tweets, in which some followers consider these prices reasonable based on the technical features and prices of competitors. Others, however, consider them excessive and compare them to those of the Huawei Mate 30 5G or the iPhone 11, considered two benchmarks in the respective Android and iOS ecosystems. Then there are those who point out that the right price for the 256 GB Galaxy S20 Ultra would be at most 1,200 euros and that 1,300 euros for the basic version, with 128 GB of storage space, is way too much. A catastrophist follower predicts that with these prices Samsung will have a drop in sales between 30 and 40 percent, but Weinbach strongly disagrees. And then there’s a follower who asks the smartest question of all, “I have an S10+, is it worth getting the S20 or is it better to wait until next year?” And Weinbach’s answer is: “It’s probably better to wait: next year will be better and you still have last year’s top.”
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip: price and features
According to Weinbach, the Galaxy Z Flip, i.e. Samsung’s new foldable clamshell smartphone, will cost 1,400 euros. Which are many, but are less than the 1,600 needed to buy the direct competitor, the new Motorola Razr. Weinbach, responding to one of his followers, says he is sure that this foldable Samsung will have a 6.7-inch display, 3,300 mAh battery, main camera and ultrawide 12 MP (both), 10 MP selfie camera and SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 855. A technical equipment definitely “poor” compared to the price, even considering the cost of making a foldable smartphone.
