Honor aims at the premium end with a good device equipped with Snapdragon 778 5G, fast charging and a great camera but the price is not for everyone
Presented in mid-June for the Chinese market, the new Honor 50 has finally arrived on the global one (including Italy). The smartphone, which marks Honor’s return to the top of the segment after the tumultuous farewell to Huawei, is not equipped with a Chinese processor (previously Honor used Huawei’s Kirin) but with a much more reassuring Qualcomm chip.
Reassuring also because, unlike Huawei’s devices, Honor’s ones don’t have (at least at the moment) any limits regarding 5G. From the Huawei era, however, Honor 50 inherits a strong focus on the quality of the photo compartment, both rear and front, and that of the screen. The result is a device that aspires to be defined as premium, even glamorous in some colors, and that has a price consonant with the range: above 500 euros. Perhaps too much, in light of the System on Chip that is fast, but not the fastest available at the time.
Honor 50: technical characteristics
The Honor 50 model just arrived in Italy is identical to the one launched in China and is based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G chip: it is not a chip from absolute top of the range, but from “almost top”. A new category, which we had to get used to this year due to the well-known chip crisis, which limited the production of the most performing processors.
The configurations of RAM memory and storage space of Honor 50 are two: 6/128 GB and 8/256 GB. The screen, curved at the edges, is an OLED 6.57-inch Full HD +, with 120 Hz refresh rate and touch sampling rate of 300 Hz.
The front camera is 32 MP, while the rear are 4 and positioned with a “dual ring” design. The main one is a good 100 megapixels (f/1.9), the ultra wide angle is 8 megapixels (f/2.2), those for macro and depth of field are both 2 MP.
Good battery and charging: 4,000 mAh and 66 Watts.
Honor 50: availability and pricing
The new Honor 50 has arrived in Italy, but you can only book it from November 1 on the official Honor website. From November 12, however, it will be available for all purposes on the official website, on Amazon and in TIM, Vodafone and Wind 3 stores.
The launch price, for the 6/128 GB version, is 529 euros. The 8/256 version goes up to 599 euros. There are four colors available: Emerald Green, Midnight Black and the two glittery Honor Code and Frost Crystal.
