It was September 4, 1998 when Larry Page and Sergey Brin filed the documents to create Google. Nineteen years later it is the most used service on the web
Nineteen years ago Google was born and no one imagined the way it would change people’s lives. On September 4, 1998 Larry Page and Sergey Brin filed the documents to create Google, a company based exclusively on a new search engine that promised to be much faster than other services on the market.
Today Google has become a company with a thousand faces and a thousand services offered (and in the meantime the name of the company has become Alphabet), but Google Search is still the main heart of the company. In these nineteen years Google has changed a lot, both graphically and from a “technical” point of view (the search engine has become faster and faster and better at interpreting users’ search queries), but the company has always remained close to Mountain View, the town in the State of California where Sergey Brin and Larry Page rented their first garage nineteen years ago.
How Google has changed
In nineteen years, Google has achieved revenues of more than $90 billion (2016 budget), with a net profit of almost twenty billion. The company has offices in every part of the World (including Italy) and the brand is almost as well known as Apple’s. There are few graphic changes that Google has undergone over the years: compared to the logo created in 1998, the style has remained almost the same. But the services offered by the search engine have changed. The goal is to provide increasingly accurate answers to user requests and buttons such as “I feel lucky” that appeared under the name of the company have now disappeared. In these first nineteen years Google has changed the lives of millions of people and in the coming years is ready to offer new products and services in step with the times. The challenges of the coming years will be virtual reality and augmented reality and Google is already ready to meet them.
