In a Google app, hints have been found that Big G may offer a combined package of two services, Google One and Play Pass
It is now clear that in recent years manufacturers are turning en masse towards services. The “real” earnings in fact companies do not make them on hardware but on services and related subscriptions paid by customers. So if the first to move towards a strengthening of its range of services has been Apple with One, now could move even Google.
The Apple in fact has made official not even a year ago Apple One, in fact a package that in a single fee includes four services: Apple Music, the streaming music platform, Apple TV+, streaming movies and TV series platform, Apple Arcade, a sort of flat subscription to a certain number of games, and finally iCloud, the well-known cloud storage for photos, videos and files from Apple. According to what has been learned through the teardown of the Google One app, Mountain View is ready to adopt Apple’s approach by launching a similar but more convenient all-in-one service.
Google’s idea in the wake of Apple
The XDA colleagues have snuck between the lines of code that make up the Google One app in search of new elements, so they have found clues that Google is willing to follow Apple. Mountain View’s idea is to combine Google One, Google’s “cloud”, and Google Play Pass, the service that brings together hundreds of ad-free apps and games, into a single package.
It’s true that Apple One would include more services than Google is planning to offer, but even the latter would have an advantage over the former: the more expensive Google One subscription includes a VPN, which would naturally be part of the new, possible offer. The downside is that Google, at least for the moment, offers its VPN only to American customers.
The composition of the Google package
Anyhow, the visit to the Google One app has given information on how the package would be composed: the basic offer would include 100 GB of storage space on the Google One “cloud” and the subscription to Google Play Pass, while it would be possible to get twice the space, so 200 GB, and up to a maximum of 2 terabytes at a discounted price. No information on possible prices, but the lower number of services included compared to Apple One suggests that it could cost less.
Those who have greater needs in terms of space, however, would remain out of the combination made in Mountain View: in fact, to get 10, 20 or 30 terabytes on Google One, reports XDA, you should first cancel the subscription to the package to join separately the corresponding plan of Google at full price, then giving up the discount that comes from the union of Google Play Pass and Google One.
Will it arrive together with Google Pixel 5a?
We don’t know if the combined offer of the two services in the form of a single package – whose name is still unknown – will actually be successful. It’s true that the anticipation comes from a Google app, but the last word is never said until the combination of the two services becomes official. Who knows, it might not come along with the upcoming Google Pixel 5a presentation.
