Google Sabrina, the new device that makes your TV smart

Google Sabrina will be the heir to the Google Chromecast and will allow you to make every TV smart. Here are the features

It is confirmed: the heir to the Google Chromecast is coming and the codename is “Sabrina”. After so many rumors, which began in March 2020, in fact, continue to jump out small and large confirmations on the existence of this device, its shape and its features.

The last of these confirmations comes from the website 9To5Google, which found a video that explains how to reboot the device within the developer preview of Android 11 for the ADT-3 Android TV. That is, a dongle to make the TV smart, already manufactured and sold by Google (currently running Android 10). Since the operating system will be unique for all devices, within the preview for ADT-3 there is also material for “Sabrina” and, in fact, it was enough to look for it to find it in a few minutes. At this point it’s enough to compare this video with the previous leaked material to realize that the design of Sabrina is now final and the technical characteristics should not vary much from those assumed.

Google Sabrina: how it will be made

As confirmed by the video found by 9To5Google, Google Sabrina will have a different shape than the current Chromecast: it will be slightly oval and not round, vaguely resembling a bar of soap. The colors available will be white, black and pink, there will be a big “G” in the middle of the shell and the surface should not be hard plastic but soft rubber. Sabrina can be controlled by voice or with a remote control (but you can’t see it in the last video).

Google Sabrina: technical features

Previous rumors, published by XDA-Developers (which got its hands on Sabrina’s firmware), also describe the technical features of this streaming device to connect to the TV. The SoC will be a quad-core Amlogic S905X2, produced at 12 nm and with a maximum frequency of 1.8 GHz. This processor can also process content encoded with the H.265 standard, 10-bit color depth, 4Kp75 resolution (but the video output will be at 60 fps due to the HDMI 2.1 connector). Sabrina will also be compatible with HDR10, HLG, Dolby Vision. The installed RAM will be 2 GB.

Android Tv 11: what’s new

Google Sabrina, most likely, will be presented together with Android 11 in late summer. It will indeed integrate Android Tv 11 and will have a redesigned user interface compared to the current Chromecast. There will be a “Live” tab to select live content, “For you”, “Movies”, “TV”, “Live”, “Apps”, “My Library” tabs and also a specific screen for the voice assistant.
