Files in danger: Microsoft blocks Windows 10 update

Microsoft has found a number of bugs in the latest Windows 10 update that can accidentally delete some files from your computer, here’s what to do

In case you haven’t updated Windows 10 to the October Update yet, wait to do so. Microsoft, in fact, has blocked the release of the ISO due to some problems reported by several users on the support pages of its website. Specifically, it seems that following the update several files stored in the computer’s hard drive disappeared.

So from Redmond have blocked, temporarily, the possibility to update devices via Windows Update and other dedicated tools, such as Windows 10 Update Assistant – Media Creation Tool. Microsoft has not yet figured out what happens and what new feature ends up deleting randomly some files saved in our computer. Windows 10 for now will not be upgradable to the latest available version until Microsoft developers fix the issues. Any communication of possible unblocking of the update or further complications will be given by Microsoft itself on the official blog at the website www.answers.microsoft.com/it-it/windows/forum.

How to contact Microsoft in case of loss of important files

What to do if we have already performed the update and checking again we realized that from the computer have been deleted some important files for our work or study? Microsoft has made available a series of channels to be contacted in these cases and help people recover their documents. From Redmond they make it known that all files deleted by mistake from the Windows 10 update are recoverable. Users who have lost files after updating to version 1809 Microsoft suggested to contact Technical Support through this link. Alternatively, you can contact Microsoft and the support staff in your area by phone.

For Italy, the phone number is: +39 02 38 59 14 44. If instead we want a direct contact with a Windows 10 operator who can help us in live chat while we are at the PC, we can use the Microsoft web app at www.support.microsoft.com/it-it/contactus/. On some social media sites, such as Twitter and Facebook, it is possible to send a message to Microsoft’s online customer support, using the company’s various official pages, in order to receive more information about recovering our accidentally deleted files from the Windows 10 update.

What to do if we’ve lost files with the Windows 10 update

If we’ve lost files with the latest update due to the Windows 10 bug there is one important thing to do, or rather not to do, besides contacting Microsoft’s customer support: we don’t use tools or apps to clean up computer files. If we use apps like CCleaner or similar there is a serious risk of losing forever the files accidentally deleted from Windows 10 but still saved in some remote corner of our PC. Microsoft has also let it be known that patches and a series of new updates will be released soon to eliminate the bug from the latest version of its computer OS.
