Facebook expands the availability of Dating to Europe, and Italy: now you can meet new profiles and look for a match, like on Tinder
After a year since its debut in the stars and stripes Facebook Dating arrives in Europe. A long wait, confirmations, denials and a few too many delays have made the date of the arrival in Italy and other European countries of the platform dedicated to meetings between users registered to the famous social network slip.
The landing in Europe of Facebook Dating has been anticipated by a wealth of successes, as confirmed by the Product Manager of Facebook Dating Kate Orseth. According to Orseth, in the 20 countries where the service is already active, the platform has generated “over 1.5 billion matches”. To push users towards the service managed by Facebook compared to other competitors on the market there would be some aspects of particular interest, such as the total gratuity and the ability to access the platform with your Facebook account although the profile for dating remains completely separate to be customized according to their interests and maintain privacy.
Facebook Dating: how the platform works
As mentioned above, to use Facebook Dating you only need to be subscribed to the blue social network. Once logged in, it is necessary to access the dating platform and customize your profile, which will always remain separate from the original one.
Once inside, users can take advantage of some of the features used daily on the social network. Two out of all are stories, which are added directly from Facebook or Instagram, based on the user’s preferences, or events to find matches with the same interests.
All new instead are the Secret Passions, or the ability to create lists with up to 9 Facebook friends for whom you have, precisely, a secret passion and with whom to get in touch in case they should make the same gesture, and Video Dating, a video chat in which to see the other person and get to know them better as you would during a normal date, a situation increasingly difficult and potentially dangerous in times of pandemic.
Facebook Dating: how personal data is handled
After the recent blizzard involving Facebook regarding Facebook’s handling of personal data, many have seen concerns about their privacy rise. However, Facebook immediately wanted to put some stakes, confirming that no user data will be used for future advertising campaigns on the two platforms.
The same goes for the rules of content moderation. Facebook ensures continuous monitoring of user reports, in case of violent, dangerous or inappropriate behavior. The same goes for scanning profiles for nude images or biographies of users with illicit content or for prostitution purposes.
Nothing done instead for end-to-end encryption that Facebook has chosen not to implement in Dating chats. On the issue, Facebook specified that this would be due to the moderation team’s need to be able to verify possible violations of the Standard of Conduct and, consequently, to fully protect its members.
