The new feature will be a kind of search engine and, at the same time, an aggregator of various types of content: links, texts, photos, videos, playlists, music and appointments.
It is a solution that acts as an assistant for the user, through which you can collect different items, such as recommendations, reminders, links and many others, all at your fingertips in a single view. It’s called Google Memory and it’s one of the features that Mountain View is working on these months, waiting to offer it to its users.
According to statements released by Google itself, Memory is a “quick and easy way to save and find everything in one place”. It is a real digital binder, able to adapt to the size of the screen to take advantage of every available pixel – a particularly useful feature, also in light of the new form factors of smartphones that end up on the market every year – and show inside different types of content in one screen and without having the need to perform individual searches within the many apps on the devices.
Google Memory, what it’s for
As mentioned above, the use of Google Memory will allow you to store and display on your device different elements. Among them, you’ll be able to store digital contents such as links, digital texts or handwritten notes, images taken through the camera or saved from the Web, videos, playlists, music or appointments to be included in the calendar. Everything will end up in the same view, easily navigable thanks to the integrated search engine.
Inclusion in the collection, then, can be done in two different ways. In fact, Google Memory can be used through the operating system’s voice assistant or through an on-screen shortcut. A useful feature will be the ability to keep track of the context of the saving, with screenshots, URL addresses or geolocation of the place where the content was saved.
Google Memory, how to display content
In the Google Memory brain, everything will be organized according to “snapshots”, photographs of moments that bring the information of interest to the user. The organization will be chronological, from the newest to the oldest, with content in card format to get an immediate idea of the information saved in the box. In particular, for files like Google Docs, Sheets and others uploaded to Drive, the cards will also have a preview of the text or data and easily find out what it is.
Google Memory, how to search for information
Based on the type of item, Google Memory will allow you to perform targeted searches within it. For example, in the case of an airline reservation, the feature will offer to search for flight details, as well as find the package ID in the details of a shipment. Also, within Memory will be moved reminders, keeping the possibility to set specific reminders related to geolocation or repeated at specific time intervals.
Not even lacking is a system of tags, such as “Important” or “Read later”, to categorize content and to be exploited in the search via the bar present in the upper section of the interface.
Google Memory, when will it be ready
Currently Google Memory is in internal testing phase, so not yet available to those outside the circle of Mountain View insiders. No information has been released about the possible date of release but, if the operations were to conclude positively, it could soon become reality.
