Due to the collapse of active SIMs, the virtual phone operator Erg Mobile has announced its closure by March 2019, here’s what to do if we are users
In the past we had told you about Erg Mobile, the virtual mobile operator that allowed Italian users to receive bonuses on their cell phone SIM based on refueling. Unfortunately, however, the operator has decided to close, here’s what to do if we are their users.
The arrival in Italy of Iliad, which recently also announced the sale of the first iPhones, has yes led to a drastic drop in prices but is also leading to a collapse among users of smaller MVNOs, just like Erg Mobile. As if that wasn’t enough, some phone companies strongly rooted in the territory as TIM and Vodafone have chosen to counter Iliad prices with virtual operators managed by them, as in the case of Kena for TIM and Ho.Mobile for Vodafone. A scenario that is therefore leading to the closure of several small virtual operators and among them one of the first to make the expenses is precisely Erg Mobile.
What to do if we are Erg Mobile users
Erg Mobile has announced its final closure in March 2019. This means that if we are users of the MVNO of the famous group of gas stations we will have a little more than three months to make a portability to avoid losing the number. Alternatively, we will also be able to withdraw our contract, eliminating the telephone contact. In both cases, given the nature of the end of the contract, i.e. the closure of the company, we will not incur penalties or additional payments. In the meantime, the Italiana Petroli group has also announced the suspension of top-ups for active Erg Mobile numbers and the cessation of benefits on supplies for its users. Moreover, on the MVNO’s official website, the section to activate a new SIM has disappeared.
The collapse for Erg Mobile occurred in 2017 and especially in 2018. In 2016, in fact, the company had more than 400 thousand active SIM cards, today there are just under 70 thousand. Fortunately, this is one of the happiest times for mobile users in Italy and those who will have to make a portability from Erg Mobile will not struggle to find an offer under 10 euros that contains unlimited minutes and many gigs of Internet every month.
