EMUI 12 for Huawei and Honor smartphones and tablets is official: here are the new features of the latest user interface that should make way for HarmonyOS
Huawei has made official a bit of a surprise the EMUI 12, a new version of the user interface used by smartphones and tablets of the house, Honor products included. Those who believed that after the recent presentation of HarmonyOS 2.0, EMUI would be “dead” to make room for the new operating system will be disappointed, but, after all, the agreements were clear.
It is true that the operating system that will take the place of Android after the known events related to the ban with the U.S., HarmonyOS, is official, but it is “operational” only in China and in all likelihood will remain confined for a while in the People’s Republic. It’s there that Huawei intends to send it “to regime”, so roughing it from the most annoying bugs and optimize it as much as possible, to then launch a distribution in grand style outside of China. We don’t know how long this process will take, but judging by the fact that time, and resources, have been spent on the development of EMUI 12, it will take more than a few weeks to get HarmonyOS in the west as well.
The new EMUI 12 user interface
In the meantime, those using a Huawei device can get acquainted with the new EMUI 12, whose novelties are evident starting with the user interface. The company has changed the style without changing it: rounded elements and color gradients are used extensively, but the basic structure has remained faithful to itself, so there are always the three colors – white, black and blue – to characterize the UI.
Huawei has refined the animations already present on the UI and added new ones, and with the possibility for EMUI 12 “customers” to adjust the size of the text but also the “weight” (or thickness, if you prefer) of the characters. Functional news about the control panel: you can now drag your finger down from any screen to access the interface tool that allows you to adjust connections, manage playing tracks, and so on.
The EMUI 12 control panel houses a new section called Device+ through which, those with a Huawei MatePad or MateBook can quickly and easily manage multi-screen collaboration, so for example to perform some typical smartphone functions – calls, messages, view photos in memory – through the Huawei tablet or notebook. The Device+ feature was already present in EMUI, but with this new feature, namely the presence of Device+ in the control panel, everything is faster.
Other new features in EMUI 12
There are also some other new features in EMUI 12. Here comes the new Distributed File System that provides instant access to photos and documents contained in the smartphone from Huawei notebooks, without a physical connection between the two, typically via cable. Or even a small novelty about MeeTime video calls that allows you to transfer the video stream from the smartphone to Huawei Vision TVs in a few steps.
EMUI 12, release and supported devices
Unfortunately, there is no information about the availability of EMUI 12 and the devices to which it will be intended. Huawei hasn’t released any details on the matter yet, but we’ll update you when there’s any news.
