Dark Mode coming to Google Maps as well. The confirmation comes from some press rumors and from Google itself. If you want, you can already use it
The dark mode, that is the dark mode so popular in recent times, is about to arrive on Google Maps for Android. Google is testing it on some parts of the navigation app’s interface.
As Android Police points out, however, we’re still at a non-final version and a lot to refine, because there’s not yet a complete and consistent dark mode on Google Maps, but only a few hints in some parts of the main screen and in some buttons. It is, however, the confirmation (and not even the only one) that it’s not long before we see a full dark mode on Google Maps, to the delight of all fans of this feature and all owners of smartphones with OLED displays. It is known in fact that the dark mode, in addition to resting the eyes, also serves to save battery on screens built with OLED technology because this technology turns off the black pixels completely, consuming much less power.
The confirmation on Instagram
In addition to the first elements of the new dark interface reported by Android Police, to confirm the imminent arrival of dark mode on apps there is also a post published on Instagram by the official Android account: a very short video where you can see all the official Google apps (with Maps in the middle) in dark mode. Accompanying the video is a short text: “Dark mode is coming to Android 10. Try it, your eyes and your battery will thank you”. At the moment, however, even if you enable dark mode in the general settings of Android 10, there is still no dark mode on Maps.
The dark theme on Maps would already be there
To be honest, a dark theme on Maps would already be there for years: it’s the one that is automatically activated during navigation when we enter the gallery. You can also keep it active all the time, but only when you start navigating: just go to Settings > Navigator settings > Map view > Color scheme and choose “Night” instead of “Automatic”.
From the same place in the settings you can also, if you don’t like the dark mode, set the fixed day view. Once you exit navigation, however, at the moment the Maps interface reverts to clear anyway, and there’s no way to activate a dark mode on the whole app. But there will be soon, apparently.
