We wake up and the first thing we do is check the notifications that arrived during the night on Facebook and WhatsApp group messages, then we have breakfast and in the bathroom we use our smartphone again but to read the latest breaking news from around the world.
We get ready and go out to work: if we go by car we use the smartphone to check the traffic and to give a last check to the messages received on instant messaging applications, instead if we use public transport, we can occupy the time with “more challenging” applications: a quick review of the last English lesson with Duolingo or plan the appointments of the day with Evernote and share the calendar with our work colleagues. But our “relationship” of love and hate with the smartphone doesn’t end there. It continues throughout the day.
During the morning we’ll look at WhatsApp a few times to answer our children’s voicemails, while during the lunch break we’ll keep up with domestic and foreign political news and catch up on that post published on Medium that we hadn’t managed to read in the morning. Back to work we update our to-do list and share it with our desk mate. And then headed home, where we will talk to our partner through Facebook Messenger and decide what to eat in the evening. After dinner finally, we will put aside the smartphone and take the tablet where we will decide by mutual agreement with our family which TV series to watch.

The application is available on both the Google Play Store and the App Store.
2048
The classic game that makes you express “In five minutes I’ll finish it” and then you spend entire days trying to figure out why you can’t finish the game. 2048 is a puzzle game developed by an Italian boy whose objective is to create a tile with the number 2048. The operation is very simple: the user must move the tiles that have the numbers of the table of his inside a square of size 4X4. By moving the tiles from one side to another, the user must add up the identical ones, so that in the end he reaches the number 2048. If the game may seem simple, in reality it is not. You can get stuck and lose the game because of a wrong movement and lose patience after a few seconds. If you want to try to get your neurons working right away in the morning, nothing is more suitable than 2048. There are several versions available on the Google Play Store and the App Store, all of which are quite similar.
Map my Walk
What better way to occupy the time that separates your home from your work office than by walking. If you live close to your workplace you can decide to walk every day: if you are a fan of statistics and want to know how much time you spend and above all your average speed, there are several apps on the web that keep track of your performance. One of the most complete is Map my Walk, dedicated specifically to short walks: you can record your route by activating the GPS on your smartphone and analyze the data collected by the application. In addition, Map my Walk synchronizes perfectly with fitness trackers and you can use the data collected by the wearable to get a more accurate overview. The application is available for both Android and iOS users.
Serial Reader – Daily Book
Very often work commitments do not allow people to cultivate the hobby of reading: in the evening you arrive home too tired and you can not read a chapter of your favorite novel. For those who suffer from these problems Serial Reader – Daily Book has been developed, an application that collects over 350 books, including many great classics of international literature, and divides them into small chapters depending on the time available to the user. A sort of self service of literature, but that can bring closer to the magical world of books all those who due to work commitments are not able to organize the best. The only drawback is that at the moment the application is only in English.
Duolingo
(Taken from YouTube)
It is possible to improve one’s English level in the subway, and the credit for that goes to Duolingo, an application that uses exercises and mini-games to learn new languages and brush up on grammar rules. The app has been a great success among young people, but also among those who, thanks to their smartphones, have had for the first time in their lives the opportunity to learn new languages and cultures. Depending on the time available (5, 10, 15 or 20 minutes) the user can set the type of review he wants to do. The application is available for both the Google Play Store and the App Store.
Applications to use with more than thirty minutes to spare
If you live far from your place of work, the bus or train ride can be a real pain. Some applications, however, can help you make the most of your time.
30/30
More than an application, it’s a race against time. 30/30 offers the user to make a list of things to do within half an hour and once it starts the stopwatch will remind the user of the goal to be achieved. During the bus trip you will be able to set all the daily work dividing the appointments during the day and leaving a small space for rest. In case a task exceeds 30 minutes, the application allows you to divide the hour into two parts: the first one of forty-five minutes in which you will try to complete the most demanding task and one of fifteen minutes lighter where you will check your email and share with your colleagues the report on the progress of the last month.
Real Racing 3
(Taken from YouTube)
Premise: you must have your smartphone charged, otherwise the game will “kill” your battery in no time. But let’s go in order. If you want to relax in the morning before going to work with a good video game, the only choice is Real Racing 3, an application developed by Electronic Arts and considered by many to be the best game on the Google Play Store and the App Store. Real Racing 3 takes driving video games to another level, never reached before. The game offers almost 40 circuits and more than 140 cars, but the real highlight is the number of challenges available, over 4000 events including Cups, Elimination races and more. Logically it’s a very demanding game from a performance point of view and you need a fairly recent smartphone to get the most out of the game. There is also an online multiplayer mode and a large community always ready to give advice and suggestions. If you want to arrive at work relaxed and energized, Real Racing is the ideal choice.
NBA Live 16
If you want to try to emulate the plays of your favorite champions in the morning before going to work, NBA Live 16 is the application for you. The videogame lets you build your own dream quintet with all the best players of the star-studded basketball league. Besides, you’ll also be able to unlock historic players such as Jerry West and Magic Johnson. Every day there are new challenges to complete, plus you can challenge other players to exciting online matches.
Time is short and if during the day you can’t keep up with the main news from around the world, the best solution is Flipboard, an application that collects articles from the world’s major newspapers and offers an insight into what happened during the day. Each user can create their own personal magazine and receive news from some of the categories present in the application. For those who like to stay up-to-date, but don’t have time to make a selection of the day’s news, installing Flipboard on their smartphone is the best choice they can make. The app is available for both the Google Play Store and the App Store.
Buddhify
(Taken from YouTube)
Relaxing after eight hours of work should be the norm, but when you get home very often you are forced to start working again. The only truly free moment of the day is the thirty-minute bus ride between your office and your home, and you should make the most of it to find an easy way to relax. Buddhify is an application that offers small aids to be at peace with yourself and your soul. Relaxing music, vocal advice on meditation, and more allow Buddhify to be one of the best apps to use right after work.
