Real-time subtitles have arrived on Chrome and can be activated by following a simple procedure. Here’s how to do it
It’s called Live Captions and it’s one of the most innovative features present in Android 10. What is it? Real-time subtitles that are integrated into any application, even messaging applications (especially useful for international video calls). Live Captions takes advantage of artificial intelligence and lets you see subtitles simultaneously in any video. Logically, for the moment it only works best with English-language videos, but Google is working on implementing other languages as well.
Live Captions, however, might not just be exclusive to Android 10: it will soon be implemented on Chrome as well. In fact, they’re already available on Google’s browser, but for now they’re reserved for those who use Chrome Canary, the beta version where all the new features are tested before reaching the stable version. To activate Live Captions on Chrome, you have to go into flags, the section of the browser with hidden functions. Here’s how to do it.
How to activate live subtitles on Google Chrome
Live Captions have arrived on Google Chrome, even if at the moment only in the Canary version dedicated to testing (they are present from version numberĀ 84.0.4136.2). To activate them you have to follow some simple steps.
First of all, enter the string “chrome://flags/” in the search bar. It will open a page with all the experimental functions of Chrome and you have to search for “Live Captions”. Once you have found it, just click on “Enabled” on the side and restart the browser. Once you’ve completed this step, you should also enable Live Caption in the Accessibility settings of the browser.
When will Live Caption come to Google Chrome
As already explained, the feature for the moment is only active on the beta version of Chrome. If the tests go in the right direction, Live Caption could also debut on the stable version, starting with version 84. Remember that at the moment Chrome is stuck at version 81 and the number 82 was canceled because of the Coronavirus. We will have to wait, therefore, at least a couple of months.
