Supermarket cards, like the others, will contribute to increasing the cashback accrued and each transaction will be counted towards the six-monthly Super Cashback of 1,500 euros. This is a measure much awaited by users, because these cards offer the possibility to receive benefits for subsequent purchases within the stores of that chain. Now that you can use them to accumulate Cashback, therefore, you will no longer have to choose between the benefits of the State Cashback and those of the supermarket: two birds with one stone.

What are supermarket cards

If supermarket payment cards can now be included among the payment methods in the IO app, it is because, after all, they are nothing more than credit cards branded by large retail chains. In fact, they are issued by normal credit institutions: the Esselunga card, for example, is issued by Deutsche Bank while the Coop card is issued by UBS.

For the same reason, these cards can also be used outside supermarkets, just like a normal credit card: they are based on international circuits and work in dozens of countries around the world.

Supermarket cards and Cashback: how it works

What we have said so far means that even using these payment cards will always give the right to Cashback, not only when we use them to pay at the supermarket. But, when we use the card to pay in a store of the chain that issued it, we will also have the specific benefits provided by the card. Usually a bonus on loyalty points and the possibility of participating in specific promotional activities.

But there is a detail to be careful of, and not to get confused between supermarket payment cards and loyalty cards: the latter are not electronic payment instruments, but only magnetic cards connected to a points account. Therefore, the use of supermarket loyalty cards has nothing to do with State Cashback.
