Bridgerton 2 cast revolution: who’s leaving and who’s arriving

A beloved actor is leaving the TV series, but many others are arriving: here’s the news on Shondaland’s TV series.

After the incredible success of the first season, Bridgerton is preparing to return with new episodes. It will be a completely different chapter, with a new story, protagonists to be discovered and with a partly renewed cast.

All seasons take inspiration from the literary saga written by Julia Quinn. The first one was centered on the love between Daphne and the Duke of Hastings, played by RegĂ©-Jean Page. The actor won over the audience in a handful of episodes and was one of the most anticipated performers of the second season, but as announced by Lady Whistledown, Duke of Hastings will not return. The decision is not unexpected because we know that the protagonist of the second season will be Viscount Anthony, played by Jonathan Bailey. It will remain within the story Daphne who will help her brother to find the best wife. The Duke’s retirement leaves everyone with a bitter taste in their mouths, because everyone had grown fond of him. But there will be some interesting new additions to the cast. Here’s who they are.

Bridgerton 2: new actors and characters

In the second season we will see as many as five new characters, played by Charithra Chandran, Simone Ashley, Shelley Conn, Rupert Young and Calam Lynch.

As we mentioned, the protagonist of the second season will be Viscount Anthony Bridgerton, engaged in the search for a wife and great love. Anthony begins to court Edwina, played by Charithra Chandran.

In the meantime, the viscount has six feelings for her sister, Kate Sharma, played by Simone Ashley, actress who also appeared in Sex Education and other TV series.

Shelley Conn instead will play the role of the mother of the two sisters, it will be in fact Lady Mary Sharma. In the past, the woman had been at the center of a scandal that had made the rounds throughout London and the story will be resumed in Bridgerton 2.

Rupert Young will instead play Jack, a young scion of the London nobility who will put in contact the Bridgertons with other wealthy families in the city. This character does not appear in the novels, but is still useful to make the narrative more dynamic.

Finally, Calam Lynch will be Theo Sharpe, a worker who fights for the rights of all. But it is not yet known exactly what role he has in the series.

In short, it will be a continuous succession of new acquaintances and scandals, in perfect Bridgerton style.

When Bridgerton 2 comes out

In recent weeks a photograph circulated on social media by actor Luke Newton and then there was talk of the start of filming, in fact these have not yet begun.

The delays are due to the pandemic. However, they should start by May in London and other parts of the UK. New episodes could be released in late 2021 or early 2022 at the latest. In the meantime, Netflix and other streaming platforms are giving away many Bridgerton-like TV series.
