Bonus TV, which televisions and decoders you can buy

The Ministry of Economic Development has published the list of devices compatible with DVB-T2 digital terrestrial: here are which ones

Little more than two weeks to December 18, the date on which government incentives for the purchase of a television set or decoder compatible with DVB-T2, that is, the new standard of digital terrestrial will come into force.

The incentive, up to 50 euros, is reserved to families with an Isee income up to 20 thousand euros and within the same family it is possible to use the bonus only once. In case of false declaration, if the transgressor is discovered, will have to return the bonus, will risk a penalty and a criminal complaint. Given the lack of clarity regarding which devices you can buy with the bonus, the Ministry of Economic Development has seen fit to publish on its website a page from which you can check which devices are “compatible” with the bonus. We would like to remind you that the total funds available, to be spread over three years until 2022, amount to 151 million euros.

Bonus TV: how to find out if a product is entitled to the bonus

Without prejudice to the economic prerequisite, which must be demonstrated by means of a self-certification form to be presented in the store at the time of purchase (the form can also be downloaded from the Ministry’s website:), it is possible to obtain the bonus only for the TVs and decoders in DV-BT2/HEVC standard listed in the list.

TV bonus: over 500 compatible devices

The choice of products compatible with digital terrestrial 2.0, including TV sets and decoders, is truly vast: over 500 devices have already been registered on the website of the Ministry of Economic Development and, for convenience, it is also possible to search within the list by brand and model, or by EAN code (basically the bar code of the product). Among these devices there is really everything: from decoders costing a few tens of euros (under 50 euros of cost the bonus should be recalculated) up to smart TVs costing almost 2,000 euros.

The new digital terrestrial

The government incentive is made necessary by the fact that in Italy only 3.8 million families have a television set or a decoder compatible with the new digital terrestrial standard, against 17.8 million families who do not have it. This standard will come into operation in 2022, with a very specific purpose: to free some frequencies already auctioned by the state to telephone operators, who will use them for 5G networks.
