Asus tries to shake things up in the top of the range sector with a device with a low cost price and top features. And with the flip system
Probably (indeed, almost certainly) we’re just at the beginning of a new trend and the coming months could reserve us even more futuristic solutions. At the moment, however, Asus designers and engineers stand out for their inventiveness, launching on the market a smartphone with a unique photographic compartment.
The Asus Zenfone 6, the new top of the range Taiwanese manufacturer, has a camera system with dual rear camera and dual front camera. The peculiarity? These are the same two sensors that, thanks to the innovative flip system, rotate from one side to the other of the device. For the rest, we are faced with a device that has nothing to envy to the smartphones of other manufacturers. Indeed, the technical features and price make it one of the most interesting top-of-the-line Android smartphones of this first half of 2019.
Schedule Asus Zenfone 6
Presented during an event in Valencia, the Asus Zenfone 6 is the response of the Taiwanese giant to the top of the range presented in recent weeks by the various Xiaomi, OnePlus, Samsung and Huawei. And, reading the data sheet, the Asus Zenfone 6 has nothing less than direct competitors. Under the 6.4-inch IPS NanoEdge LCD display with FullHD+ resolution (very large screen, which covers about 92% of the front surface without interruption) find space Snapdragon 855 accompanied by 6 or 8 gigabytes of RAM and 64, 128 or 256 gigabytes of internal memory (standard UFS 2.1) expandable with microSD.
There are, of course, the various sensors for connectivity (4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, NFC, Bluetooth 5.0), those for geolocation (GPS dual band, GLONASS, BDSS, Galileo dual band, QZSS dual band) and those of movement (accelerometer, gyroscope and others). To power everything we find a 5,000 mAh battery with fast charging, capable of guaranteeing two days of use under stress (this, at least, what declared by the manufacturer).
Photographic compartment Asus Zenfone 6
The Asus Zenfone 6 differs from the rest of the competition, as mentioned, for its photographic compartment. Not because it mounts sensors different from the others – on board, in fact, we find the Sony IMX586 from 48 megapixels, among the most appreciated and mounted in this first half of 2019 – but for the particular rotation system designed by Asus technicians to have a dual front camera and a dual rear camera without being forced to duplicate the lenses and steal space from the screen. Thanks to the flip system – this is the name given to the rotation mechanism – the two rear cameras are able to rotate on an axis of 180° and turn into front cameras. This will allow you to take panoramic photos and selfies with the same, identical quality.
The features of the photo compartment of the Asus Zenfone 6 are top-notch. The main sensor, as mentioned, has a 48-megapixel resolution (with f/1.79 aperture and focal length of 28 millimeters) and is able to take very detailed photos with well-balanced colors in any light condition. The secondary sensor, however, is a 13-megapixel wide-angle lens with 125° viewing angle and 11 millimeter focal length.
Asus Zenfone 6, when it comes out and how much it costs
The Asus Zenfone 6 is already available for purchase on the official store of the Taiwanese manufacturer with a starting price of 499 euros (in the 6/64 gigabyte version). The price rises to 559 euros for the 6/128 gigabyte version and 599 euros for the 8/256 gigabyte version.
