From dark mode to a screen designed to keep you focused while driving: here are the new features of Android Auto
During Google I/O 2019, the Mountain View company had announced the arrival of the Android Auto update within the year. It is a system that allows you to activate your navigation system via your Android phone and connect it to your car to safely and easily reach your destination.
Launched in 2014, it is used by millions of users around the world, not only to have maps and routes available, but also to get other additional services. In fact, Android Auto can be integrated with many third-party apps, from Spotify to Deezer to iHeart Radio. Maps can also be accessed offline, i.e. without a network connection. Google is constantly working to improve it, and soon you’ll be able to download the update. This will include several new features: a new design, the navigation bar, but also the dark mode to use while driving at night.
What’s new in the Android Auto update
Google had announced the Android Auto update in May, during Google I/O 2019, the event that Big G organizes every year for developers. Users will see all the new features by the summer. The upgrade mainly consists of the introduction of a new interface that will allow you to see all the functions on one screen. If the app icons were previously located at the bottom of the display, from now on a list will be shown that allows you to find what you want at a glance.
The goal is to minimize distractions while driving: those behind the wheel will be able to avoid browsing through features and apps on the screen because they will have them immediately visible in front of their eyes. Specifically, Google introduces a new navigation bar that will combine directions, incoming and outgoing call management and all the apps available on your smartphone. In this new version it will be possible to adapt the content to the size of the screen: the larger the display, the more information will be shown.
Android Auto update: dark mode arrives
One of the most interesting novelties of the update is the dark mode in perfect Android style.
The introduction of Quick Commands
Android Auto will also include the use of Quick Commands, which will increase the level of safety for the driver and passengers. In fact, you will be able to manage them by avoiding moving your eyes or touching the display too many times. So your hands will remain on the wheel, while your eyes can stay focused on the road. For example, while following the route you can change the Spotify song without leaving Maps, as is still the case.
The update will be compatible with smartphones that already use Android Auto and can be used by all users by summer.
