Android Auto, the new version arrives: what will it look like

Google starts rolling out the new version of Android Auto. It mainly changes the user interface, with the introduction of dark mode and new menu

Unannounced last May during Google I/O 2019, the Android Auto update is finally here or at least it seems so. The long-awaited update to the car infotainment platform would appear to be rolling out as reported by some Reddit users. The new interface is pretty much identical to what Google had anticipated months ago.

The purpose of the Android Auto interface refresh is to minimize distractions while driving by encapsulating all available functions in a single screen. The new navigation bar combines driving directions, call management, both incoming and outgoing, and all the apps you use on your smartphone. What’s more, this update allows you to adapt the content to the size of the screen so that, in the presence of a larger display, you can see more information.

Android Auto: the new features

Among the new features introduced by the latest update of Android Auto, the dark mode stands out, a display mode turned to darker tones useful especially when driving at night. The new dark interface affects the brightness of the screen so as not to exacerbate the sense of sleepiness and fatigue. The app icons have changed position, no longer relegated to the bottom of the display, but displayed through a list that allows you to find what you need at a glance. Finally, the introduction of the so-called shortcuts so you don’t have to take your eyes off the road and your hands off the wheel to avoid touching the screen multiple times.

Android Auto: when to download it

On Reddit many people have claimed to have activated the new interface with the latest version of Android Auto by simply clearing the cache and data from the app and then forcing the app to close. Once this was done an option appeared in the Android Auto app’s settings inviting the user to try the new update. As anticipated, the new Android Auto is currently in the roll out phase, but the most optimistic think that the update will be available for all Android users starting from the end of the summer.
