Among the many new features coming with Android 12 there’s also the one-handed mode: maximum convenience in using large displays with one hand
There’s a lot of excitement around Android 12 that, according to calculations, should arrive in September on all compatible smartphones. Among the many innovations ready to peep out, there is a new one-handed mode for large screens that promises to allow the use of large devices in a more practical and faster way.
The good news comes directly from XDA Developers that, among the various implementations that can be appreciated already with the beta release of the new version of the operating system, has reported just the one related to the simplified use of the smartphone with one hand. According to the site, the feature should be included in the open-source version of Android (AOSP). This means that, if the anticipation were to be confirmed, all interested smartphone manufacturers could soon take advantage of the feature on larger devices, if of course they are compatible with the Android 12 release.
Android 12, what is the one-handed mode
The use of smartphones with large displays has its advantages: an improved overview and more space for icons, just to name a few. But when you have to juggle all the elements on the screen with one hand, it can be tiring and stressful. And here comes the one-handed mode to support it.
According to XDA, once activated the Android 12 mode would allow the screen size to shrink by 40% compared to the original. The feature could be quickly activated through a simple gesture, without having to go through the Settings menu.
Although some manufacturers have already incorporated similar gimmicks into their proprietary interfaces for their smartphones, the presence of Google’s operating system could make the one-handed mode available to even more devices. A great step forward, given the constantly increasing number of models with displays larger than 6.5 inches, released every year on the market to meet the different needs of users.
Android 12, the other news coming
The facilitation for one-handed use will obviously not be the only feature of Android 12. Among others, in fact, there should also be the implementation of the indicator that indicates when a third-party app uses the microphone and camera of your device. In addition to this, there are – to name a few – those dedicated to the restyling of the interface, from the splash screen in night mode to the renewed layout for the Always on Display mode and the Lock Screen.
To see them, however, we have to wait some more time. In fact, at the moment developers and fans are still waiting for the opening of the beta testing phase that, at the end, will lead to the release of the stable release of the operating system of the green robot, usually scheduled in the second half of the year between August and October and occurred in September on the last two occasions.
