Amazon launches the challenge to Microsoft: coming an office suite

Some rumors suggest that Bezos’ platform could soon add to the Amazon Web Service also a series of functionalities for the office

The office software sector, always dominated by Microsoft, is ready to welcome a new competitor: Amazon. According to some rumors, the e-commerce platform would be, in fact, ready to launch its package of office applications.

To report the news, which in some ways does not surprise much, was the website The Information, which suggests that the Californian company is planning to give new life to some of the apps in the Amazon Web Service, the cloud computing service dedicated to companies. Referring to these rumors, Amazon would have ready, in fact, a series of office services to add to WorkMail and WorkDocs software. The new extensions, very similar to the functionality of Microsoft and Google’s office suites, will allow the e-commerce giant to expand its offerings for business.

Open Challenge

The office suite, according to rumors, could also include Chime, the video conferencing application for businesses and SMBs, which has been available for a few weeks. The move will allow Amazon to enter a market segment mainly led by two other American coorporations: Google and especially Microsoft. Although at the moment there are no official confirmations to support the rumors, it is very likely, in fact, that the office package will soon be included in Amazon’s business cloud. According to what we learn, the suite will be available on PCs, tablets and smartphones.

There are no indications even regarding the price, but, considering Amazon’s policies, it is very plausible that the service will not have a high cost and will be able to compete with the costs of Microsoft’s cloud platform and that of Google.
