High power charging, thanks to GaN technology, becomes for everyone: here’s a charger with an excellent technical data sheet and a very competitive price
Ultra fast USB charging, that is high power, is changing the way we use electronic devices: high speed, increasingly large screens and increasingly advanced functions consume a lot of energy and to keep devices “awake” you need a huge battery. Or a battery that recharges in very little time.
The second option is the one that is winning: putting bigger batteries in smartphones, tablets and laptops is not easy, it negatively affects the weight, the price and the design of the device. That’s why it is important to have fast charging: we can use it to add a few hours of autonomy with about twenty minutes of connection to the charger and arrive until evening, without too many problems, with any device. Those who produce devices with ultra fast charging, usually include the charger in the package but it is always better to have an additional charger. For safety, but also for convenience: the original one we leave at home, the other we bring to work. Now, on Amazon, a 65 Watt charger has arrived that costs a little over 20 euros.
PD-ISmart 65W Charger
The charger in question arrived a couple of weeks ago on Amazon and, we should point out, is an anonymous product and without any reviews yet. Our evaluation, therefore, is based on the data sheet and the real efficiency of this charger may vary from what is stated by the Chinese manufacturer.
However, the data sheet is very good and the price as well, so it’s worth a try.
We are talking, in fact, of a charger with GaN technology, ie with gallium nitride components. Gallium nitride is a highly efficient semiconductor that allows you to make very small, very powerful charging devices that don’t get very hot.
If the material used is the first calling card of this 65 Watt USB charger, the second is the dual PD (Power Delivery) and ISmart certification. The first one means that the charger and the connected device talk to each other to establish the correct voltage and charging power to avoid overload damage, the second one means that the two charging ports distribute the power according to the real needs.
This charger, in fact, is able to deliver 65 W in total: the USB-A port provides a maximum of 18 Watts, the USB-C port up to 60 Watts. If the connected device is only one, then, it can absorb all the power, while if there are two, the power will be divided. When one of the two devices is fully charged, however, its power will be interrupted and all the power will go to the other.
All this in a very small device: 9.2 x 5.5 x 3.2 cm in size (including plug) and 120 grams in weight.
PD-ISmart 65 W Charger: the Amazon offer
GaN 65 Watt chargers have an average price starting from 35-40 euros. They cost more than normal chargers because of all the advantages of GaN as described above.
This charger has a list price in line with the average price of similar products, 36,99 euro, but on Amazon it is on sale with a coupon of 16 euro valid until Sunday 19 September (or while the coupon lasts) which brings the final price to 20,99 euro.
To get this price you have to click on this link and then tick “Apply coupon 16,00 €”.

Finally, a clarification: with this charger you will be able to charge also devices that support higher powers, but obviously with a power cut to 65 Watts. But we can also charge two devices with traditional charging at the same time, or even one 18W and one 30W and so on.
