The printer is low-priced, very small and lightweight, and equipped with a system that enables the creation of high-resolution objects
3D printing has become established not only in the workplace, but also in the homes of many ordinary users, attracted by the ability to produce an infinite number of objects with a simple click. 3D printers have also become more popular due to their increasingly compact size. As in the case of Bean, a small resin printer.
Developed by a startup that launched a campaign on Kickstarter, one of the most popular crowdfunding platforms, raising nearly $400,000 in a short time, Bean is characterized by being a very small, but extremely effective printer. The device, created by Kudo 3D, a company specializing in 3D technology for everyone, was created with consumers in mind, the company says. In addition to being small in size, the printer is very reasonably priced and, most importantly, features a system that allows for the creation of high-resolution objects.
Features of Bean
Bean is a unique printer that differs from other SLA (StereoLithography Apparatus) 3D printers in that it does not use a laser to solidify the liquid, but instead uses a 405 nanometer violet LED lamp. Without venturing into very complicated technical details, the light is used to compact the resin inserted in the tray and give shape to the object to be printed. The choice of the name Bean, which means bean in English, is not causal, but represents the compactness of the printer, as small as the green legume. What’s more, by using an LED light, the Kudo 3D device lasts longer and consumes much less power than a traditional 3D printer.
Precisely Detailed
As mentioned, Bean is a resin printer. To print, simply fill the inner tank with one of the 4 available colors (gray, yellow, black and green). One of the main features of the printer is the high resolution, which allows Bean to make objects, even very small ones, with very precise details. The printer can be controlled via pc, or through a mobile device. And it is also very light (weighing less than 7 kilograms).
Price and release date
According to what it is able to do, Bean has an advantageous price. To early backers, the backers of the project on Kickstarter, the printer sold for $199 (costs vary depending on the solutions chosen). Bean, following Kudo 3D’s roadmap, will begin shipping in January 2018.
