A funny video starring an ostrich – a bird that notoriously does not fly – but thanks to virtual reality manages to achieve his dream
Succeeding to convey the feeling you get when experiencing virtual reality without wearing a visor is an extremely difficult task. Samsung has succeeded with an ingenious advertising video that, in our opinion, makes us both smile and think.
The protagonist is an ostrich that one day, while he was with his companions, he notices a house in the distance and, curious, he approaches. He finds a table with the remains of a breakfast on it and begins to eat them. Then, he misses his aim and instead of “pecking” at the plate, he slips on a Samsung Gear VR visor. Et voila… a flight simulator appears before his eyes and he experiences the emotion – probably – of his greatest dream: to take flight and fly through the clouds. He tries day and night, beats his wings, falls and gets up again, then at a certain point he loses his visor, but by now that has become his reality. And in the end, to the amazement of the other ostriches watching from below, he makes a virtually impossible wish come true.
Is anything possible?
The film ends with a slogan: “We make what can’t be made, so you can do what can’t be done”. The idea? Virtual Reality makes everything possible. A slogan that, in some ways, can adapt to everyday life: want is power. Within certain limits…
