Nintendo provides the first official data for Super Mario Run: the application has reached eighty million downloads with a conversion rate of 5%
Almost two months after the official launch, it’s time to make the first official assessment of Super Mario Run, the application developed by Nintendo exclusively for the Apple Store. After a spasmodic wait that lasted almost three months, the video game was officially launched on December 15 last year.
In the first days Super Mario Run has exceeded forty million downloads, a result recorded only by very few other applications. The 2016 blockbuster, Pokemon GO, had not recorded this kind of results in the first days after its release on online stores. During the company’s annual report presentation, Nintendo released new official data that gives insight into how the app has been received by users. In just under two months Super Mario Run has reached eighty million downloads, with a conversion rate of 5%.
The numbers of Super Mario Run
The main problem of Super Mario Run is the price. Those who want to play the full version of the video game have to shell out an amount of around ten euros, which has scared most people away from downloading the video game. Doing a quick count, 5% of eighty million downloads has earned Nintendo a little less than 40 million euros. A figure that might seem high, but it is lower than the forecasts made by the Japanese company. Although the figure is not totally negative: analysts’ forecasts were much lower.
In the meantime, after Animal Crossing and Super Mario Run, Nintendo is ready to launch a new videogame on the Google Play Store and the App Store, Fire Emblem: Heroes. We’ll see if the Japanese company will repeat the exploits of the other video games.
