How and why to set a graphical password in Windows 10

On Windows 10 computers in addition to PIN or fingerprint scanner we can also use a graphical password to access the device

When we use a computer with Windows 10 operating system we have several methods available to increase the security of our device. We can enter a passcode such as a PIN. Or use a fingerprint scanner. But we will also be able to use a graphical password.

But what is a graphical password and how does it work? This security system present in Windows 10 that you can use to access your device or a particular program selects a random photograph from our gallery. Within this image we can adjust a series of lines, circles or movements that will unlock access to the device. Being saved only locally the photo is less exposed than a password and the chances of it being stolen by a hacker are lower. Setting a graphical password on Windows 10 is not difficult and it only takes a few clicks to do it.

Setting a graphical password

To use a graphical password on Windows 10 just go to Settings and select the Account item. Then click on the Login Options section and scroll through the list of possibilities until you find the Graphical Password heading. Then just select Add to start using this Account security system. First we’ll be asked to select the image with which to unlock, just select the item Use this image from the list of photos in the gallery. After that we’ll have to select the gestures needed to unlock the PC. Obviously this function works best on devices with a touchscreen, although the movements can also be performed with the mouse. Like all visual unlocking sequences, the graphical password has a big flaw. Every time we use it, we have to pay special attention to the people around us to prevent an attacker from repeating our gestures on our PC and stealing our information. To avoid leaving too many fingerprints on the screen, it is advisable to frequently clean the display of the laptop.
