Digital terrestrial television: the latest changes in view of October 15

Still more frequency changes and channel shifts on digital terrestrial television, although with much less haste than before: here is what has changed in Lombardy, Campania and Puglia.

Since the Ministry of Economic Development made official the postponement of the start of the switch-off from first generation digital terrestrial television to DVB-T2 to October 15, 2021, there have been far fewer channel and frequency shifts. Also because, to tell the truth, in view of the previous deadline of September 1st, many operators had already switched to Mpeg-4 and moved to new frequencies.

Something, however, is still moving at local level, while the large national broadcasters (such as RAI) have decided to take advantage of all the time available to switch to the new codec. For example, since mid-August, small changes have been reported in Lombardy, Campania and Puglia while nothing has changed in the other Italian regions, where local broadcasters in recent months had made great economic efforts to update their equipment and be ready for the first step of the switch-off. A haste that, in hindsight, was useless: this is why local television entrepreneurs have not failed to make their protest to MISE for the sudden change of dates in the roadmap to the second generation of digital terrestrial television.

Digitale terrestre: the news from north to south

From north to south, we start with Lombardy, where in recent days the Mux Telelombardia 2, which was transmitted on VHF frequency 11, has been permanently switched off. For viewers nothing changes, because in this Mux there were only three test channels that did not broadcast anything.

About test channels: in the Mux Più Blu Lombardia a few days ago a new one arrived, at LCN 6, in full HD and with Mpeg-4 encoding. This channel was in conflict with Mediaset Italia 1 and Italia 1 HD channels and, consequently, it has been promptly moved to LCN 1018.

In the same Lombardy Mux, then, a new duplicate of TV Radio NBC Milano (LCN 606) has been inserted. The same broadcaster is already present, with the same programming, on two other channels.

In Campania, on the other hand, some radio stations have recently been included in the Mux CreaDab: these are Radio Nuova San Giorgio, Radio Kemonia and Radio Mi Vida. The duplicate of Primaradio disappears and Radio Buenos Aires changes its name to BAradio.

In Puglia, finally, the Mux Retecapri loses the channels Media Capri 76 (LCN 76) and La Tv dei Consumatori (LCN 531 and 810). The latter has passed into the Intesa Puglia Mux (also on LCN 810).
