How to call with Windows 10 using your smartphone

The Your Phone app also allows you to make calls directly through your PC: here’s how it works

After having it tested for several months to users registered in the Windows Insider program, Microsoft has released to the general public a new feature: phone calls within Windows 10, via the SIM card of our cell phone.

It is now possible to make them within the Windows 10 app “Your Phone”, which in Italian is simply called “Il tuo telefono”. With the same app it was already possible to receive notifications from our connected Android smartphone on the Windows desktop, it was also possible to read SMS and reply to messages, and it was also possible to download photos taken with the camera of the mobile device to the PC. All features that, in some cases, can also be done with specific apps developed by smartphone manufacturers while, on the contrary, Your Phone is a universal app for all cell phones. The “Your Phone” app, in fact, has as its only limitation the fact that it can connect with a smartphone running the Android operating system (from Nougat 7.0 onwards) and not also with Apple iPhones.

To take advantage of this new feature you must, first of all, connect your smartphone and PC. To do this, you need to download the Your Phone app from the Microsoft Store to your PC and, at the same time, download the “Complement Your Phone” app from the Play Store to your smartphone. After installing and configuring the two apps on the respective devices, and properly connecting the smartphone and PC, you can use the interface of the desktop app to receive and make calls from/to the smartphone. From the PC, you can access your phonebook and the list of your latest calls, and you can select one of your contacts and initiate the call.

Smartphone always in your pocket

With the ability to call and receive calls directly from your computer, you can, in theory, keep your smartphone in your pocket or purse while you work without the risk of missing a call, notification or message. Microsoft is continuing to develop the Your Phone app to offer users additional features. Such as mirroring the mobile screen on the computer display, a feature that was born from the collaboration between Microsoft and Samsung and that is currently only available for the Korean manufacturer’s smartphones.
