How to protect your smartphone screen

How to protect your Android smartphone from drops and scratches? Here are the best cheap and easy to apply solutions

It happens to many and more often than we think. Dropping the smartphone and breaking the screen is one of the main sources of concern for many people, especially when the phone is still new and the threshold of attention is at the highest level.

The use of lighter and stronger materials has meant that in recent years smartphones last longer and are increasingly solid and robust, but this does not mean that we can sleep soundly, just a small inattention to shatter the screen. But how can we protect the screen of our smartphone and thus ensure a longer life to our phone avoiding unpleasant mishaps? There are several ways to protect the display, from the use of simple covers, up to the use of more specific accessories. Here’s how to protect the screen by spending a few euros.

Gorilla Glass

Most of the devices on the market have a technology that protects the smartphone from falls and scratches. This is Gorilla Glass, the Guardian Angel of many smartphones. The Gorilla Glass 6 isĀ able to resist accidental scratches and falls from a height of about a meter, without damaging the screen and the body of the smartphone.

To avoid unpleasant surprises, however, it is useful to follow some tips: avoid putting your phone in your pants pocket along with your keys. While walking, friction is generated between the two objects, resulting in the creation of more or less deep scratches on the screen or on the back shell.

Screen protectors

A faster and cheaper way to protect the smartphone screen is the use of the so-called protective films that should be applied only on the display to defend it from scratches, but not from falls. Anti-scratch films can be made of plastic or glass.

Plastic films are the cheapest, lightest and easiest to apply. However, their protection is minimal and varies depending on the particular material used. PET films are strong and easy to apply, but are not suitable for phones with curved screens, while those made of TPU are more flexible and require more effort during installation and can produce air bubbles between the cover and the screen.

Stronger tempered glass films that protect the smartphone not only from scratches and everyday wear and tear, but also and especially from damage due to accidental drops. The only recommendation is to be careful at the time of purchase because the glass films are not all the same and you need to buy the one made specifically for your smartphone model.

Screen protectors: prices

Of course, depending on the material used, the prices of protective films vary greatly between them. They start from cheaper options between 5 and 10 euros to more expensive ones made with a matte finish or anti-UV materials.
