A super powerful Android smartphone at a small price: is a road attempted by many, but ZTE Axon 30 Ultra 5G has all the credentials to succeed
Unlike Huawei that lives a very difficult phase due to the US ban, perhaps the most difficult since the beginning of its experience in the smartphone landscape, ZTE seems not to have taken the hit more than a little, probably due to less severe sanctions imposed on it by the Trump administration.
ZTE in fact uses American sourced hardware and software components for its smartphones and markets the products on star and stripes soil without any problems. Like the recent ZTE Axon 30 Ultra 5G, which is also available for purchase a few hours in Italy. The name promises sparks, and in fact to read the characteristics of the newborn ZTE there is some interesting material. But by far the most interesting aspect of all is the price, which makes it one of the best candidates for those looking for a high-end Android smartphone without spending a fortune.
The characteristics of ZTE Axon 30 Ultra 5G
ZTE Axon 30 Ultra 5G has a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution, HDR10+ support and a maximum refresh rate that even touches 144 Hz. “Maximum” because the ZTE MyOS 11 user interface based on Android 11 is able to manage it in order to always have the best compromise between visual fluidity and attention to power consumption.
Based on the activity performed, the software can adjust the refresh rate on different levels: 60 Hz, 90 Hz, 120 Hz and finally 144 Hz. Each operation is orchestrated by Qualcomm’s best SoC, the Snapdragon 888 octa core with a maximum frequency of 2.84 GHz. Next to it, 8 or 12 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of UFS 3.1-type storage.
The rear section contains a module with four cameras: three 64-megapixel with different focal length equivalents, 13, 26 and 35 mm, and a telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom (123 mm equivalent) of 8 megapixels f/3.4. From 16 megapixels instead the front camera inserted into the display with a circular hole.
On the connectivity front there is really nothing missing, except for the unobtainable 3.5 mm audio jack: there are Bluetooth 5.2, 5G SA/NSA connectivity, Wi-Fi 6E, GLONASS, Galileo, BDS, NFC, USB-C 3.1, the fingerprint reader is in the display, and system audio is stereo.
The built-in 4,600 mAh battery shouldn’t struggle to provide sufficient battery life, but the 65-watt wired fast charging is a major lifesaver. However, it lacks wireless charging, although this is an absence made tolerable by the price at which ZTE Axon 30 Ultra 5G is offered.
Availability and price of ZTE Axon 30 Ultra 5G
And despite the fact that the data sheet has several interesting cues, it is undoubtedly the price the aspect that benefits ZTE Axon 30 Ultra 5G over the competition. The Chinese smartphone is sold immediately in Italy through the portal of the company (but we can imagine that the distribution may soon be entrusted to the sales channels “traditional”) at very affordable prices: 749 euros for the variant of access from 8 + 128 GB, 849 euros for the 12 + 256 GB, both with shipping in three days.
