Huawei Nova 8 SE looks like an iPhone but it’s a low cost

Huawei renews its mid-range and presents Nova 8 SE: a smartphone with mid-range features, with a photo compartment, a screen and a higher-end charging.

Huawei has made official the launch of its new Nova 8 SE smartphone, which will be presented in China on November 5. This is a device with good features for the price it costs, especially if we consider the screen and the photo compartment. At first glance, however, what stands out is the design very similar to recent Apple iPhones.

Both the flat aluminum bezels, and the large rear camera compartment included in a square overhanging bumper, are very reminiscent of smartphones from Cupertino. Under the hood, however, the Nova 8 SE of Huawei has components of a mid-range device, except for the cameras that are higher class as expected from Huawei. Very good also the display, another component that usually Huawei cares a lot. The Nova 8 SE, therefore, promises to be a device attractive to a large audience and with which Huawei tries to maintain its position even in the mid-range market, where other Chinese competitors are starting to make more and more inroads.

Huawei Nova 8 SE: the data sheet

The official technical specifications of the Huawei Nova 8 SE have not yet been fully revealed, but the rumors are now all aligned around a MediaTek Dimensity 720 processor, or perhaps a Dimensity 800U that has higher frequencies but is always composed of 2 A76 CPUs, 6 A55 and a Mali-G57 MC3 GPU. RAM will almost certainly be 4 GB.

The screen is a 6.53-inch OLED, 60 Hz refresh rate and FHD+ resolution, with a central notch hole for the 16 MP front-facing camera. The rear sensors, on the other hand, are four: a 48 MP main camera (but it could even be 64 MP), an 8 MP secondary camera and two 2 MP sensors, one of them for depth. Very interesting, finally, the ultra-fast 66 Watt charging.

Huawei Nova 8 SE: how much it costs and when it comes out

Huawei Nova 8 SE will be presented in China on November 5, along with the rest of the new Nova range: Huawei Nova 8, Huawei Nova 8 Pro and Huawei Nova 8 SE. The price of the SE should be, at the current exchange rate, around €340 which rises to €410 for the Nova 8 and €500 for the Nova 8 Pro.

The whole Huawei Nova 8 range will come to market with Android 10 but, of course, without Google’s GMS services which will be replaced by Huawei’s HMS services.
