A British psychologist has compared the addiction to the famous video game Fortnite to that of heroin use, especially in the brains of younger children
This is not the first time that Fortnite, the famous survival video game by Epic Games, is accused of causing addiction. Against the game has moved even Prince Harry and there have even been cases of separation, but now there are many parents worried about their children.
Fortnite, in fact, is very popular (to put it mildly) among adolescents and young people, who can not always keep control and manage well the time spent on Fortnite. As already mentioned, the game has been repeatedly accused of causing addiction, especially among children: there have already been several cases of parents being forced to take their children to a psychologist because the child could not distinguish reality from the fiction of the game and could not break away from the console or computer but always wanted to continue playing. This addiction can cause insomnia, bad grades at school and even mental development problems. Throwing further fuel on the fire was Lorrine Marer, a British behavioral specialist, who compared Fortnite to heroin. Provoking the wrath of several parents who now no longer want their children to use the game.
Videogames and addiction in children
Fortnite is not the first and unfortunately will not be the last video game to cause addiction and problems among children, but according to what Dr. Lorrine Marer Fortnite for the global success it has had, for the violence inherent in its game plot and for the rewards that the killings of other users can give, Fortnite causes in the human brain an addiction similar to the use of heroin. Addiction that is amplified in the brains of children, not yet structured to defend themselves from recreational addictions. Video game addiction, not by chance, has recently been included among the “game-related disorders” by the World Health Organization. If our child is a Fortnite player, we try to stay close to him and explain the difference between game and reality and, above all, we impose and respect a maximum number of hours per day to spend in front of the console or computer.
