Apple iPad mini 6, screen problems reported: what’s going on

The debut of iPad mini 6 has been complicated by several reported problems with the screen that made the first customers turn up their noses

iPad mini 6 was made official in mid-September along with the iPhone 13 and the new Apple Watch (which is finally coming to market). It received an aesthetic and functional update that the “mini” project, stagnant for more than a few years, clearly needed: it was a good step forward, but not without problems.

The screen, however, has complicated the debut of iPad mini 6, and caused the worst trouble to Apple but especially to customers, who after spending over 500 euros or dollars demanded a device certainly not affected by gross problems to the screen. If in the past few days the case of the so-called Jelly effect (“gelatinous”), quite common among the customers of the first hour, now another problem has emerged, always to the screen, which, at least for the moment, does not seem to affect many. The solution would be a recall for iPad mini 6 with a defective screen, but Apple, at least for now, doesn’t seem to want to go down that road.

What’s happening to the iPad mini 6 screen

The latest iPad mini 6 screen problem has surfaced on Reddit, where a user showed how his new device reacted rather strangely to finger presses. From the video uploaded on the web, you can clearly see how a not even too firm pressure on the screen causes the onset of some semi-circular spots that give the feeling – but it’s just a feeling – that some component is too “soft” or sensitive.

Of course not a normal reaction, especially for a product over 500 euros. The problem seems to be less noticeable with the dark mode turned off and with less “firm” touches on the screen. It seems that Apple has granted the customer in question a replacement iPad mini 6, but the new unit has also experienced the same problem. It also seems that Cupertino is aware of the various screen issues on the new 8.3-inch iPad: an Apple Store employee confided to the customer that he wouldn’t be surprised if Apple instituted a recall campaign for the iPad mini 6 display problems.

The other problem reported so far

And if so far there aren’t many reports of the problem caused by a higher than normal pressure on the screen, iPad mini 6 has had a start that is not at all easy or quiet.

Some iPad mini 6, and judging by the reports that populate the web you could also say “many”, accuse the so-called Jelly effect. In essence, the displays that are affected show a sort of delay of the image on the screen to what the fingertip commands during the scrolling of pages, lists, feeds.

Apple has already spoken on the issue of the Jelly effect, saying, however, that it is normal for LCD displays: the company explained that in this type of panels the update of the image occurs line by line, so there may be a small delay between the update of a line at the top and one at the bottom.
