Good news for fans of The Walking Dead: a spin-off is coming
Although The Walking Dead TV series is in the home stretch with its eleventh season, which will also be the final one, there is no shortage of rumors related to other content inspired by the characters of the famous show.
One of the latest news concerns the co-protagonists, Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier. In fact, a spin-off dedicated to the couple has been announced. Episode after episode, the two characters have managed to win the hearts of the audience, creating their own little fanclub. The two interpreters Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride said they were really happy for this decision and publicly expressed their impressions. The TV series has been officially announced by AMC, network and producer of all the titles that belong to the zombie franchise, whose events are taken from Robert Kirkman’s comics. The Walking Dead: the comments of the actors
The announcement came on September 9 from the official channels of the producer AMC: Daryl and Carol will have their own series, which adds to the successful franchise. In fact, another spin-off titled The Walking Dead: World Beyond and three movies centered on another beloved character, Rick Grimes, are in the works.
The show about Daryl and Carol will be produced starting in 2023 and will involve the same actors who participated in the TV series. Norman Reedus, who plays Daryl, and Melissa McBride, who plays Carol, have already expressed their enthusiasm.
Melissa McBride commented on the news: “I’ve always enjoyed working closely with Norman over the course of these seasons. Playing Carol, but also as a viewer of the series, I’ve always been intrigued by ‘Daryl and Carol,’ and the way that, from the beginning, they seemed somehow connected to each other.”
Carol’s character has had an incredible evolution in the television series: at first, she presented herself to the audience as a weak woman, succumbing to her abusive husband. When he is killed by a zombie, however, she becomes stronger and more independent.
But the real change comes after the death of her daughter Sophia: Carol at this point will undergo a real inner revolution, which will lead her to become a warrior and play a leading role among the members of the group of survivors. In this way, she will conquer the role of co-protagonist in the last seasons.
Beyond her, episode after episode, the character of Daryl will make room. Norman Reedus, the actor who plays him, commented on the arrival of the spin-off: “I am extremely honored to be a part of ‘The Walking Dead’, a series that has changed my life and my career. I know there are a lot of stories left to tell and a lot more to show the best fans in the world. Daryl and Carol’s relationship has always been my favorite in the series (sorry Rick!).”
Daryl is a controversial character, who just like Carol grows incredibly throughout the series. Will this be the reason for their incredible success?
Initially he introduces himself to the audience as a shy and grumpy guy. He joins the group along with his brother Merle, who is killed. This fact makes him more mature and judicious. He will work hard to save all the members of the group, including Carol and her daughter Sophia. Carol and Daryl form a relationship of mutual esteem, which will lead them to become one of the best couples of the entire TV series.
When will the spin-off be released?
It is certainly a long-term project: we will have to wait several years before we can see the result on the small screen. There is even talk of 2023! In the United States it will be broadcast by AMC, while in Italy it could be released on Amazon Prime Video.
