Twitter introduces live streaming of 360-degree videos

Twitter takes another step forward in the live video industry by adding 360-degree streaming functionality via Periscope

Twitter is trying to keep up with the fast-paced times. Although at the moment the feature is only available to a group of lucky users, very soon everyone on Twitter and Periscope will be able to watch 360-degree live videos. At least according to the post published by the social on its blog.

The year that is coming to an end has been very busy for Twitter, which saw a potential acquisition on the horizon before the negotiations vanished into thin air. The social network of the bird – since that moment – is trying to find new ways to grow by adding new products and features with the aim of attracting more users in the near future. At the moment, however, the innovations are not getting the desired results and the negotiations for the sale of the company are languishing: of the various big that seemed to be interested in the social microblogging (Google, Salesforce and Softbank among others) there is no more news.

Twitter invests in virtual reality and augmented reality?

The function of 360-degree live video allows users to shoot everything around them. The feature is currently limited to a small group of partners, so we won’t see many such videos for a while. But this strategy could also attract prominent figures tired of seeing their videos “drown” in the chaos of other platforms and choose Twitter because it is still a “terrain of conquest” in which to continue to build their own audience. Reading between the lines of the post there is a detail not to be underestimated: the author of the publication is Alessandro Sabatelli, director of the AR (augmented reality) and VR (virtual reality) sector of the company. It seems that Twitter is, therefore, exploring various opportunities in the sector.
