How to speed up the installation of apps on Android

If during the installation of an app from the Google Play Store we notice continuous slowdowns we have to clear the cache of the service or change DNS

Sometimes the installation of an app on Android takes longer than necessary. When this happens, there are many inconveniences. Let’s say, for example, that we need to download an app to make a bus ticket, but it takes longer than it should and we have to miss the ride.

Unfortunately, there are some little “tricks” to speed up the installation of a program from the Play Store. Let’s say right away that it’s no use turning off and on the data connection or Wi-Fi. Nor is it useful to stop the installation, exit the store and then re-enter with the hope that the bug won’t reoccur. If apps start downloading slowly, the problem is with DNS (Domain Name System) or the Google Play Store cache. Sometimes the problem goes away momentarily if we clear the cache and activate the data.

But this is not a good technique because it doesn’t allow us to download as fast as with Wi-Fi on and we’ll use up a lot of data from our monthly plan.

Clearing the Play Store Cache

It has been said that to speed up the installation of an app we need to clear both the Google Play Store cache and the Google Play Services cache. To clear the former just take your Android smartphone go to Settings, look for the Apps section and then click on Google Play Store. In the page related to the app store we click on Clear Cache. After that we go back to Settings, select the App section again and look for Google Play Services. Enter the dedicated page and select Clear Cache. And that’s it.

Change your DNS

To make sure we don’t get any more slowdowns when downloading apps we can also change the DNS. This is not a difficult operation. It has to be said that by default Android doesn’t allow you to set and manage global DNS. You can solve this problem though by using a third party app called DNS Changer. It’s a bit annoying because it constantly asks us for a five star review and has lots of ads. But we will only need it once so we can install it and then delete it. Once the app is launched from the main DNS change window we select the DNS provider we want to use and then click the START button. At this point we’ll be notified that the service is trying to establish a VPN, click OK and let’s go on. As soon as the app finishes its process the error during the download from the Play Store will be fixed.
