The arrival of the Galaxy S30 is approaching, but Samsung’s new smartphone won’t be equipped with some of the most anticipated features
Samsung is preparing to launch the new Galaxy S30 smartphone, but some of the most anticipated features won’t be there. The smartphone won’t have a front-facing camera under the display, let alone the ToF (Time of Flight) sensor.
Behind Samsung’s choice not to equip the Galaxy S30 with ToF technology, some rumors claim, there’s Apple’s paw. The technology developed by the South Korean company is not yet at the levels of the iPhone, and so the idea would have been abandoned. The Galaxy S30, successor to the Galaxy S20 and for this reason indicated by some leakers also with the name of S21, could arrive on the market in the early months of 2021, between February and March. The company would have also abandoned the idea of using a front-facing camera under the display, preferring the technology already used for its predecessors.
Galaxy S30, because Samsung has given up the ToF technology
For some time we start talking about the successors of the Galaxy S20 and especially the innovations that Samsung could bring to the new series of smartphones coming out in 2021. Among these, the use of a ToF sensor for the rear camera, which according to some rumors would have faded. The main reason is that the Galaxy S30 could be equipped using a sensor that is based on indirect ToF technology, which does not reach the standards offered by Apple’s direct ToF technology. Samsung had in fact pointed to the technology developed by Sony, which, however, has signed an exclusive agreement just with the iPhone company.
Galaxy S30, no camera under the display
Another disappointed expectation for Samsung fans is the presence of a camera under the display. If Galaxy S30 was indicated as the first smartphone that could be equipped with this technology, the presence of holes on the display would indicate the choice of a front-facing camera compartment more similar to that of the Galaxy S20 series.
Galaxy S30, the other features
There is still no confirmation on the chipset of the Galaxy S30 series, but rumors confirm support for 5G connectivity, which could come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 processor, or with a next-generation Exynos chip. The operating system instead will be based on Android 11, integrated with Samsung’s One UI, and the new smartphone will come with very thin bezels and will be water and dust resistant. Neither confirmed nor denied instead on the super camera with 150-megapixel main sensor, although we must wait to know the characteristics of this top-of-the-line smartphone from Samsung.
