How to check iPhone charge cycles

Is your iPhone battery working at its best or starting to have problems? Find out with dedicated apps and tools made by Apple

The iPhone battery is not immortal, its capacity decreases with each charge cycle. Fortunately, the most modern devices support iOS 11.3, an operating system that integrates a very useful feature to understand the health status of the device, called “Battery Status”.

Knowing this information is crucial for several reasons. First of all, it lets you know when your phone starts to get dated or how many hours of autonomy it can provide. Also, it’s a useful feature if you’re buying a used iPhone to know the battery status and the number of charging cycles already done. With each cycle, the phone gradually loses its ability to charge and render maximum performance. In addition to the internal function, you can also check the charge cycles thanks to third-party apps.

Iphone charge status: how to check it?

The iPhone 6 and later models support iOS 11.3, an operating system with a feature called “Battery Status”. To access, follow the path: Settings > Battery > Battery Status.

Here you can monitor performance, manage it and avoid sudden shutdowns. The Battery Status allows you to check the “maximum capacity”, i.e. the current battery status compared to the original one. As soon as you purchase this parameter it will be at 100% but it will decrease with each charge cycle. Normally, the capacity is maintained at 80% up to 500 complete charge cycles. Also, you can know the “maximum performance capacity”, that is the capacity of the battery during peak performance. If these are up to standard, the iPhone shows the following message: “Your battery currently offers standard peak performance”.

You can also check the charge cycles and battery status with the Apple support app. This is useful in case of technical problems with the power supply. The app is free and offers a vast amount of solutions. To get back to the ones on the battery, you need to select the “Power and Battery Charging” item. After selecting it, you can either follow the standard checking procedure or talk to an Apple consultant.

Check charge cycles with Coconut Battery app

To check the status of the iPhone battery you can also rely on the Coconut Battery app. This tool lets you know when the battery was built, the number of cycles, status, temperature and other information. To know this data, you need to connect the Apple device via USB or synchronize it with Wi-Fi.

After connecting the iPhone, you need to give consent to the computer to access the information of the phone, then select the “iOS Device” item. From this moment, the app shows all the data, including those related to the battery status. Among the various sections of the app, “History” allows you to have the performance history.

These solutions allow you to monitor the battery performance and make your iPhone survive even longer.
