Facebook now supports streaming to Chromecast and Apple TV. But on Android, there’s a bit of a glitch. Here’s how to fix it
Facebook has introduced support for Chromecast and Apple TV, first on Web and iOS, then on Android. What does it do? To stream videos posted on the social network to your home TV. But something is going wrong on Google’s mobile system…
Facebook has long been trying to narrow the gap with YouTube on the video terrain. And the solution has finally arrived with support for Chromecast and Apple TV. The process is very simple: just tap the TV-shaped button to the right of a video’s progress bar – whether on browser or app – to instantly send the movie to the big TV screen. It’s a piece of cake if it weren’t for the fact that, recently, Android users have been grappling with an annoying notification that there’s no way to close.
Noisy notification that blocks everything
In fact, in recent days, some Android users have been “fighting” with this irritating notification window that pops up after using Facebook and watching any video. The window says “Cast Device Not Connected” and shows the Play button and the close button but, neither of them respond to the commands. The Android Police site found out that the bug is caused by Facebook’s mishandling of videos, but only in the social network’s official app (release 100.0.0.20.70).

There are at least three antidotes to the annoying problem before the Facebook team rushes to fix it by releasing an ad hoc update. The first is to use “brute force”: force the Facebook application to close. The second stratagem is to install, or perhaps return to, the beta version of Facebook – codenamed Katana – which doesn’t seem to be affected by this annoying inconvenience. Go to the page from which to download the application, press the “Become a Beta Tester” button to receive approval from the social network. You can, in any case, download it from this address. The last possibility is to opt for Facebook Lite – the release developed for emerging markets and not officially available for Italian users – but which you can download from this address.
