How to add or import contacts with Android

If you’ve recently switched to Android and don’t know how to use your address book or transfer all your old contacts to your new device, here’s how to do it

After many doubts and hesitations, you’ve decided to replace your iPhone with an Android smartphone. Although at first, as it is normal when switching to a new operating system, you’ll find yourself a bit disoriented, you can rest assured: the OS of the green robot is really easy to use.

One of the main features of Android, in fact, is its simple and intuitive interface, which allows anyone to learn how to master the phone in a few minutes. Probably, the first thing you’ll do, as soon as you turn on your new smartphone, is take a look at the address book. Don’t freak out. There’s no need to write down on paper the contacts stored in the iPhone and then manually enter them into the Android device. There are, in fact, several very simple and especially fast ways to import phone numbers to Android.

How to add a contact on Android

Before explaining how to transfer contacts, it is useful to explain how the phonebook works on Android. Let’s say you want to add a new contact. You find the app on your smartphone. It won’t be difficult to locate it. Regardless of which version of Android you use (you probably have the latest one, Android Nougat), the Contacts app is located within the drawer of your smartphone.

Have done that, press on the + symbol. At this point you can choose whether to store the contact on the SIM or (as is advisable) on your Google account. Here you can enter not only your mobile number, but also your home or office number, address, email address and other information.

From now on, to call someone or send an email, just type their name in the app, without manually entering either the phone number or the email.

How to import contacts from iPhone

Now that you’ve learned how to use the address book, let’s try importing contacts from iOS to Android. Don’t worry, you don’t need to use the microSD. Do you already have a Google account? If not, create one. Now, turn on your iPhone and, after pressing on “Settings”, go first to “Mail” and then to “Accounts”. Now click on “Add account” and select “Google”. Enter your credentials and wait for the device to synchronize all your contacts.

All you have to do now is add the Google account (the one used on the iPhone) on Android: in the address book you will find in a flash all your old contacts. Perfect, but not for everyone. Someone might have sold their iPhone before doing this. Don’t worry, all is not lost.

How to import contacts from iCloud

If you don’t know, like Google, Apple also syncs your contacts to iCloud. All you need to do is log in via web browser to the cloud. After that, click on “Contacts” and then on “All Contacts”. At the bottom left, you’ll find a gear icon: select it. Then, only after making sure that you have selected all the contacts, click on “Export vCard”. The file will be saved on your computer.

Next, open Gmail from your computer. Go to “Contacts” and then click on “More”. From here, select the “Import” option. Now, click on “CVS or vCard File” and upload the file you saved earlier. Done. If you take a look at your smartphone’s address book, you will find all your iPhone contacts there.
