In the latest version of WhatsApp could return a feature introduced a few months ago and then disappeared: what changes with Holiday Mode
New features coming to WhatsApp: with the latest release of the messaging app could make a comeback of Holiday Mode. It had already been talked about previously but, without explanation, the team had abandoned development focusing on other features. However, it seems that its time has finally come again.
Although it is known only to a few users and fans of the messaging app, the history of the Vacation mode starts way back. In the early days of development, this particular feature was christened as “Ignore Archived Chats”. Later on, however, the feature was forgotten, in order to make room for other features that were gradually integrated into the application that is used daily by millions of users. It is only with the beta version for Android, namely the update 2.20.199.8, that WhatsApp has decided to return to implement the mode, in addition to other interesting improvements in the functionality of the app.
WhatsApp and Vacation Mode: what is it and what is it for
Despite the name may seem rather explicit, the functionality of this particular mode requires an explanation to understand all its usefulness. With Vacation mode you can act on all those chats that, by necessity or by the user’s will, should not be displayed in the main list of chats even when receiving new messages.
What happens now: when you move a conversation in the WhatsApp archive, the chat remains stationary in the folder until receiving a new message. Automatically, the app will highlight the exchange, repositioning it within the conversation list based on the order in which the messages arrive. Using the Vacation mode, however, this behavior is actually blocked: in this way, the chats no longer move independently according to the received notifications, but remain stable in the archive, where they can still be consulted later.
In previous updates, this was made possible through a small trick. With the introduction of the new feature, however, it will be possible to do it automatically without intermediate steps.
Holiday mode brings with it other changes, especially in terms of user interface. In fact, it changes the position of the Archived Chats, which is moved to the top compared to the list of conversations.
WhatsApp and Vacation mode: when it will be available
To present the new feature, WhatsApp is also supposedly making a banner, to be placed in a visible manner within the app itself. So, despite the fact that the official date of the introduction of this mode has not yet been revealed, the ultimate date could be much closer than you might think.
