To save the images and videos published in the WhatsApp State you need to use an app file manager: here’s how to do it
Since the beginning of 2017, even WhatsApp has its version of the “Stories” already seen on Instagram, first, and on Facebook, later. They are called “States” and work exactly like the stories of other social. So they automatically disappear after 24 hours of publication. However, through a not very intuitive but effective procedure, it is possible to save the images and videos of WhatsApp States on Android phones.
This often comes in handy, because when we go to the “State” tab of WhatsApp very often we find funny and interesting content, which we would like not to disappear so soon. To save them we simply need an app file manager. In many smartphones there is already pre-installed a file manager and many more can be found on the Play Store. For the sake of convenience we’ll give the example with Google’s “Files” app which, by the way, is already pre-installed in Big G’s Pixel smartphones. Once you understand the procedure, however, you will be able to complete it with any other file manager installed on your smartphone.
How to save images and videos of WhatsApp States
To save WhatsApp States you need to open the Google Files app and click on the hamburger menu in the top left corner. Then, inside the Settings, you need to enable the “Show hidden files” toggle. Then, from the bottom bar, you need to choose “Browse” and then “Internal Storage”. Here you will find all the folders saved on your device. Go to “WhatsApp > Media > .Statuses” and you’ll find all the statuses you’ve displayed so far. With a tap on the down arrow you can choose to copy or move the image or video file you want to keep. This trick, of course, only works if you have viewed a status: in the .Statuses folder you will never find all the statuses of your WhatsApp contacts, only the ones you have actually viewed.
How to create a folder to save WhatsApp statuses
If you have many WhatsApp statuses to save and keep, it might be a good idea to create a special folder on your smartphone to contain them all. This way you can find them easily and, if you want to transfer them to a PC, you can do it quickly. Also from Google Files, access Internal Storage as explained before and tap on the menu with the three dots in the top right corner. Among the available options there is also “Add new folder”, which is the one you’re interested in. But be careful: the folder will be created in the location where you are at the moment. So if you want to put it in another folder you’ll have to move it later. Or you can move it to the folder you are interested in first and then create it.
Once you have created the new folder, go back into WhatsApp .Statuses, copy the image and video you want to move and paste it into the folder you just created. This way you will keep your WhatsApp Statuses forever.
